Our Loving St Ives editor Suzanne, reviews her best year…
Loving St Ives was born as a Facebook page back in 2014. Lots of my friends were fascinated to see why I always went there on my holidays – although I did have a sneaky trip to New York in 2014!
They just didn’t get my obsession and asked me to post pictures so they could see for themselves just why I loved this fabulous place so much.
After the page started to pick up lots of followers I decided to turn the page into a website and online magazine. It is what I do for a day-job so it wasn’t hard for me to execute – but even so it’s taken a lot of time and effort over the last 18 months to get where we are today.
Our over-riding ethos is “we love St Ives” so we don’t do complaints, dog ban debates, parking or seagulls. I don’t let anyone post anything negative about St Ives or any businesses either. It’s an ethos that seems to be working and we are have already passed 30,000 Facebook followers.
So why do I say 2016 was my best year ever… well its partly because Loving St Ives is my new baby. It’s given me the excuse I need for regular trips to and from the lovely town. In 2016 I visited every month except May!
With my eldest son taking his GCSEs I thought we better lay off visiting in that month! I’ve stayed all over town and can honestly say all my visits have been amazing.
From watching my boys diving off Smeaton’s Pier into the cold sea in February to spending lazy hours barbecuing on Porthmeor beach…taking a trip to seal island on one of the lovely boats, signing my boys up for fabulous surf lessons with the fab guys at St Ives Surf School…watching the sun go down from my booth at Porthmeor Beach café with family and friends and finally joining the celebrations on the Harbour at New Year… St Ives has cemented itself even more firmly in my heart as my spiritual home.
So as we enter 2017 I pledge to bring you more…we’ll be venturing further afield, beyond St Ives to some hidden places and other local attractions. I’ll be sharing more of what St Ives and the surrounding areas have to offer, all of course accompanied by fabulous photos taken on my travels.
