Porthmeor is stunning and without doubt the Editor’s favourite beach. The beach is home to St Ives Surf School and the fabulous Porthmeor Beach Café which sells a fabulous selection of Cornish tapas, cocktails, beers and wines, along with snacks and drinks from its beachside café.
West Beach Café has recently also recently opened for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner during the summer months.
You can hire beach huts and buy icecream, juice and snacks from the shop. Overlooked by Tate St Ives, Porthmeor is a firm favourite with families and surfers. The stunning coastline offers fantastic views all year round and you can often catch local surfers showing off their skills. Surf lessons are available much of the year, or you can relax and take in the fabulous views. The beach provides a lovely back drop for a winter walk or for pitching up camp during summer with friends and family.
But the thing that sets Porthmeor above the rest are the stunning sunsets seen throughout the seasons. The sun sets over the sea with the ocean transforming into a sea of purple and orange set alight by the dramatic sun’s dying rays. There are plenty of walks where you can catch great views looking over to Porthmeor, over the lovely island or on the West side of the beach at Clodgy Point.
Lifeguard Easter to October.
